“The more you understand the wider picture, the more meaningful your impact can become.”
Could you share some insights into your background and how you came to join GCX?
I began my career at Vodafone, where I completed a placement year before returning after graduating from Cardiff University to join their Finance Graduate Scheme. I spent almost five years at Vodafone, gaining experience across various Finance roles and learning a lot about working within a large organisation.
I decided to join the Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) team at GCX as I was looking to broaden my experience and take on more responsibility. The scale of GCX appealed to me as it gave me greater visibility across the wider business and more opportunity to work directly with senior leaders. Looking back, it’s been a great move for my development and has given me exposure and greater opportunity to influence.
What motivates you in your role at GCX, and how do you maintain your inspiration?
I am motivated by the people around me and the wide range of opportunities and projects I am able to contribute to. Working in FP&A gives me exposure to different teams across the business, so there’s always opportunity to learn something new and no two days are the same. I’m inspired by the opportunity to keep learning, take on new challenges and see the impact of my work.
Is there a specific project or achievement at GCX that you are particularly proud of?
I am particularly proud of the ownership I have been trusted with at the organisation. Alongside my colleagues, I produce a rolling forecast of the GCX P&L and present risks and opportunities directly to the senior leadership team. Since joining, I’ve been given exposure to work I hadn’t previously experience, which has helped my professional development and confidence whilst pushing me beyond my comfort zone.
How do you approach challenges and overcome obstacles in your work?
I am not afraid to ask questions and admit if I don’t always have an answer for everything. I can always lean on the people around me for support and guidance, and I see challenges as an opportunity to step out of my comfort zone and take learnings.
What role do your colleagues and team members play in your success at GCX?
The people around me play a huge part in my success at GCX. FP&A is highly collaborative, and I rely on colleagues across the business to provide the insights and information needed to produce forecasts. Working with teams across Sales, Operations, HR and others has helped me build a broader understanding of the business.
Are there any mentors or individuals who have had a significant impact on your career here?
I’m very fortunate to have a great network of experienced colleagues who are always willing to offer support and advice. My FP&A colleagues Anshika Bahedia and Shrinit Badiyani, as well as my manager Andy Pocock, have supported me throughout my time at GCX and contributed to my development in the role. I have also been fortunate to be able to work closely with Brice Evins and Lorenzo Romano and value the time and advice they’ve given me throughout my time at GCX.
How has your role evolved since joining GCX, and how have you grown as a professional?
As I have learned about the business I have been given greater ownership and been trusted with more autonomy within the role. I am now one of the key finance contacts for GCX stakeholders and have become more confident in providing insights and information to support business decision-making.
What advice would you offer to new employees or those striving to excel in their careers at GCX?
Learn as much as you can from everyone around you. Take the time to understand the different functions across the business and how they work together. The more you understand the wider picture, the better you can see how all the pieces of the puzzle fit together, which will enable your impact to become more meaningful.
